On main page, could we have the following listed?

As an employee of WHOI, we want to make sure you know that your employment here may help to qualify you for federal student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.  PSLF forgives the balance of many federal student loans if the borrower:

  • Made 120 on time, eligible payments (including those made under an income driven repayment plan)
  • Has eligible loans (Federal Direct Loans, including Parent Plus loans and loans that have been consolidated into the Federal Direct loan program)
  • Is working for an eligible employer

WHOI is an eligible employer so we encourage you to meet the other qualifications required for PSLF by going to www.asa.org/pslf.  If you are eligible for this program, it’s a good idea to complete your employment certification form and have it signed by the Human Resources office on an annual basis.  You can find that form by contacting your loan servicer or by downloading it here.

This fall, the first federal student loan borrowers who work in public service will be eligible to have the balance of their loans forgiven under the Department of Education’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness program (PSLF).  In order to make sure that all potentially eligible borrowers are aware of this program and its eligibility requirements, the Center for Consumer Advocacy is offering several free webinars to borrowers.  For more information on the sessions and to register, please visit http://www.asa.org/event/.  If you have questions or to obtain more information, please contact the Center for Consumer Advocacy directly at 866.493.5563 or by email to consumeradvocacy@asa.org.
