2018 OPEN ENROLLMENT
Retirees
November 7 – November 18, 2017

As an eligible participant in the WHOI Retiree Medical Plan, this is your once-a-year opportunity to enroll and or make changes to your retiree medical benefit for medical coverage effective January 1, 2018. 

During Open Enrollment, you can make the following changes to your benefits. Any changes are effective January 1, 2018:

  • Change, elect or drop medical coverage
  • Add or drop an eligible spouse

If you would like to:

  • Remain enrolled in your existing benefit elections, NO further action required.
  • Make changes, enroll, or cancel the any of your benefit elections, please complete the appropriate Benefits Open Enrollment form and return it before November 18, 2017 to:

Coverage for Retirees and Spouses Age 65 and Over

Retirees and/or their eligible spouse may choose to enroll in Medex II.

There are no plan design changes to Medex II.

Coverage for Retirees and Spouses Under Age 65

Retirees and/or spouses under age 65 may enroll in Advantage Blue.

If as an active employee you were enrolled in a WHOI medical plan, you are eligible to continue coverage in that specific plan as a retiree only for the remainder of the year in which you retire. Beginning in your second year of retirement, until you turn age 65, you are only eligible to enroll in the Advantage Blue medical plan.

Under 65 Plan Design Changes

Below please find a summary of the changes by plan:

Advantage Blue
• Increase the Out of Pocket Maximum to $6,000 / $12,000
• $0 copay for Tier 1 (most generic) RX for Diabetes and CAD*

Blue Care Elect Saver (w/Health Savings Plan (HSA))
• Increase the Out of Pocket Maximum to $6,000 / $12,000
• $0 copay after deductible for Tier 1 (most generic) RX for Diabetes and CAD*
• $20 specialist copay after the deductible 
• $100 ER copay after the deductible for HRA and HSA plans, waived if admitted

Blue Care Elect Deductible (w/Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)) 
• Increase the Out of Pocket Maximum to $6,000 / $12,000
• $0 copay for Tier 1 (most generic) RX for Diabetes and CAD*
• $20 specialist copay after the deductible 
• $100 ER copay after the deductible for HRA and HSA plans, waived if admitted

*Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

How To Make Changes

If you want to make a change for 2018, please complete the Retiree Enrollment & Change form and return it to:

Forms must be completed and received in good order by November 18th, 2017.  No action is required if you do not want to make any changes.

Annual Reminder - Retiree Medical Reimbursements

Now is also a good time to submit your proof of coverage and receipts for reimbursement of your 2017:

  • Medicare Part B
  • Medicare Part D, and/or
  • Alternative (non-WHOI) Retiree Medical Coverage

You must submit a receipt and proof of coverage for each month which you are requesting reimbursement.  Please see the list of "Retiree Medical Reimbursement Acceptable Documentation" to determine what you must submit to receive reimbursement.

The deadline for submission is February 1, 2018 for 2017 reimbursements.  Reimbursements will be paid by the end of April 2018. For your convenience, the list of "Retiree Medical Reimbursement Acceptable Documentation" may be found to the right under 'Related Files'.  Please remember to include your name and SSN on your supporting documents and submit the information to:

Coming Soon - New Direct Bill Vendor: Discovery Benefits

For those retirees that pay their premiums though direct billing, we pleased to announce that we have selected Discovery Benefits as our new third-party direct bill vendor effective spring 2018. You will received additional information from Discovery Benefits in the coming months.  Please be on the lookout for this important information. In the meantime, continue to pay your premiums through Benefit Strategies, our existing direct bill vendor.

Has your address information changed? Remember to notify us if you have a change to your address or other contact information.
