WHOI ExpeditionsAssociates have the unique opportunity to travel to exotic destinations and explore the world’s natural wonders with a WHOI scientist as their guide. Expeditions feature an educational experience grounded in the marine environment.
New in 2014: The Amazon!
Scientists of the Global Rivers Observatory (globalrivers.org) invite you to join them on their first annual river expedition–this year to the largest river on Earth–the Amazon River in the heart of the Brazilian rainforest, December 8-13, 2014. This unique expedition allows guests to experience first-hand this amazing ecosystem. You will also see how scientists study the ecology and chemistry of rivers and participate in discussions that lead to new scientific projects, a stage in scientific research rarely witnessed by non-scientists. Space is limited; please contact Jayne Iafrate at 508-289-3313 for details or to reserve your berth.
A Recent AdventureFriends of WHOI recently joined Director Susan K. Avery and Senior Scientist Susan Humphris on an expedition to South Georgia Island. Sponsored by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and New York Yacht Club, this one-in-a-lifetime adventure took guests to one of the world's stunningly beautiful wildlife sanctuaries, with its snow covered peaks, blue glacier ice and emerald green bays, and other breathtaking sights.
