This is an introductory two day course designed for individuals who want to learn the basic features of Adobe Illustrator.

                    The following topics will be covered:

• The Illustrator Work Area and Starting Illustrator
• Learning about Illustrator Graphics and Opening the Work File
• Identifying the Page Boundary, Viewing Artwork
• Using the Illustrator ToolBox, Changing the Viewing Artwork
• Scrolling Through a Document, Making Selections
• Selecting Objects, Selecting Parts of an Object
• Selecting an Object within a Set of Objects, Creating Basic Shapes
• Using the Tools, Combining Shapes
• Creating Zigzag Lines, Duplicating Objects
• Deciding Objects, Editing Individual Segments, Painting
• Filling With Color, Stroking with Color, Building a Custom Palette
• Using a Color Matching System, Copying Paint Attributes
• De-Saturation Colors, Filling with Patterns
• Changing Pain Attributes Through out your Artwork, Opening Template
• Drawing Straight lines, Keeping Lines Vertical, Horizontal and Diagonal
• Closing Paths, Adding Anchor Points, Using a Context-Sensitive Menu
• Drawing Curves, Drawing Different Kinds of Curves, Editing Curves
• Tips for Drawing Curves, Tracing Over a Placed Image, Placing an Image
• Creating a Tracer Layer, Tracing a Shape, Creating Symmetrical Drawings
• Creating a Mirror Image, Joining Anchor Points, Average Anchor Points
• Working With Type, Adding Type to a Document, Setting up a Document
• Creating Columns of Type, Setting Type Attributes, Adjusting the Text Flow
• Wrapping Text Around a Graphic, Changing Type Orientation

This program is being presented by an Adobe certified Illustrator instructor from Integrated Technologies, Inc.

Participation is limited to 12 students per session - therefore, since we typically have waiting lists for classes, if you register but are unable to attend, please cancel as far in advance as possible.

This class is offered at no charge to WHOI employees, postdocs and students and is open initially only to WHOI personnel.  Non-WHOI affiliated individuals will be accommodated as space allows and will be charged a fee of $300 for this course.
