What we do....
The Facilities department is responsible for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's land-based physical plant and infrastructure. These functions include building services, skilled trade shops, distribution, and Institution security.
New construction, renovation and maintenance on existing buildings and grounds is directed by Facilities personnel. The shops and staff in the Facilities department utilize state-of-the-art technologies that contribute to our mission of maintaining the Institution as a world-class research facility.
New Security Measures - Last summer, the Facilities Security team responded to the newly implemented Maritime Transportation Security Act with new security procedures. While WHOI Vessels (Knorr, Atlantis, Oceanus) are at the dock, strict vessel and port security measures will be in place. Anyone seeking access to Bigelow, Smith, or Iselin must show a photo ID to the security guards in the Smith Lobby. Employees, guests, and visitors needing access to Smith, Bigelow, Iselin and the Iselin Dock must come through the Smith Lobby where our security guards may require you to provide photo identification, sign in, and screen your packages.
