Six-Month Provisional Period & Review Procedure/Non-Exempt Employees

Date: May 1, 1988
Revision Number: 3
I. General:

A review of newly-hired non-exempt employees will be conducted following six months' employment with the Institution.

II. Provisional Period:

All newly-hired employees will be considered to be provisional until they have completed six months' satisfactory employment with the Institution.

III. Six-Month Review:

A. Following six months' of employment, a performance evaluation will be given by the immediate supervisor, including the completion of an evaluation form for inclusion in the personnel file.

B. The six-month review will not apply to those employees who have previously been employed by the Institution, unless they had not completed the six-month provisional period. In that case a review may be appropriate.

C. Following the evaluation and review of the employee's performance, the supervisor will review the results with the employee.

D. Upon completion of the review, the supervisor may recommend to the Department Chair or Administrative Manager, as applicable, either:

1.The employee be terminated without prejudice if the individual's performance is marginal or unsatisfactory, or

2.Continued employment.

IV. Implementation:

The Human Resources Office is responsible for maintaining records and notifying supervisors of those employees completing their first six months of employment. Human Resource actions resulting from the evaluation will be handled by the Human Resources Office in accordance with standard procedure.

Should you require assistance in the interpretation  of this procedure, please contact your Human Resources Representative.
