TD Dependents

General Information

The dependents of TN status holders (spouses and children under 21 year of age) are admitted in TD (Trade Dependent) status. Depending on citizenship, the dependent may be required to apply for a TD visa. Dependents of TN status holders are not permitted to accept employment in the US. TD status holders may attend school, either part-time or full-time.

Dependents who do not hold Canadian citizenship are required to obtain a TD visa. They must apply at a U.S. Embassy prior to admission to the U.S. The visa application should include:

• TN's letter of employment
  
• Copy of the TN's I-94 card (if already in U.S.)
  
• Copy of the marriage or birth certificate
