If you have a laptop of one of these types, then check the battery model number to see if one of these codes are part of it. Remember to check your spare battery, if you have one. The number of interest is of the form JP(or CN) - 3NNNNN - XXXXX - XXX - 0123. Compare the NNNNN part of the number to the numbers in the table below.

If you have a match then your battery may be subject to recall and you should go to the Dell Battery program website https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx for a complete check to see if the battery has been recalled and if necessary to arrange for a replacement. Not all batteries used in a particular model of Dell laptop are affected. The batteries being recalled were made in either Japan or China and were shipped between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006. Only batteries matching the battery models listed are being exchanged. If you have a battery that has been recalled, you should arrange a swap as soon as possible. The replacement time for most batteries is being quoted as 20 days, but some model batteries may be substantially longer. Dell advises you to immediately remove the battery and only run your laptop using the power adapter. If you do not feel that it is possible for you to do this, then at least remain aware of the danger of the battery overheating and possibly catching fire and try to minimize the use of the battery and setting the laptop on flammable materials.
