Silicon Graphics systems

Note: The Varsity license software program is no longer supported at WHOI.

A brief list of places you should go to take a look at if you have a SGI:

SGI's Home -- great resources, and great Web programming!
Advantage OnLine -- This is where you can register to get SGI related patches, required patches lists and so on. You'll need your machine's Serial number (ethernet address) in order to do so. The FTP server has an SGI area which has some of the more popular patches and some precompiled software.

This section is meant to be a bit of a helpful-hints area based upon the experiences that people around WHOI have had with SGI and SGI software. Feel free to contribute by emailing me! Patch 1505 will crash XDM when you use

  • Photoshop 3.0.1 -- the only fix is to remove 1505.
  • If you have a Jazz drive or Zip drive and want to use it on your SGI, this FAQ can help quite a bit.
