Adding a Mac to the WHOI Network
WHOI now has DHCP setup in most locations across the campus.
For more information, see WHOI
Network Registration
For first time users and existing users setting up
new systems:
Confirm that your Mac is setup to automatically obtain an IP
address. (See Below)
- Go to the System Preferences and then select
Network
- Under Show: select Built-in Ethernet
- Click TCP/IP (if not selected) and confirm
that the option "Using DHCP" is selected
Plug your Mac into a active network jack in your location. If
you have a question on whether a jack is active, contact the CIS
Helpdesk at ext. 2439.
Open your web browser and you should be directed to http://netreg.whoi.edu,
otherwise type http://netreg.whoi.edu
in the address bar.
Follow the directions to register your Mac. You will need your
WHOI email username and password to register your PC.
You will automatically be assigned an IP address for your location
and should have full (internal) access within 10 minutes.
If you have any problems registering your PC, please send your
MAC (network hardware) address from the PC you are registering,
the hostname you want for your PC, and the primary location your
PC will be at to helpdesk@whoi.edu.
If you have any questions, please contact the CIS Helpdesk at
helpdesk@whoi.edu or ext.
2439.
