Windows XP with SP2, backups fail issue
Problem:
Legato explains the reason for Service Pack 2 hosts experiencing
a backup failure and provides 2 options for fixing it, at http://www.legato.com/resources/bulletins/399.html.
Essentially, the Windows Firewall is preventing the backup server
from contacting the client on the WinXP/SP2 system. Below are
the steps to take in remediating the problem.
Solution:
An exception must be added to the Firewall rules, allowing the
Legato client to communicate with the server:
- Click the Start menu and select the Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, double-click Network Connections.
- In the left pane of the Network Connections window, click
Change Windows Firewall Settings.
- Click the Exceptions tab.
- Click the Add Program button.
- Click the Browse button.
- Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin\nsrexecd.exe
directory. (If the NetWorker client is installed in an alternate
directory, navigate to that directory.)
- (Optional) To limit the subnets from which nsrexecd.exe can
be accessed, use the Change Scope button.
- Restart the NetWorker software by either of the following
methods:
- Use the Services application to restart the NetWorker processes.
- Reboot the computer.
If you have questions or a different problem with using the Backup Service,
please contact the CIS Helpdesk at x2439.
