EmEx - a tool to read the archives
One of our programmers, Adam Shepherd, has developed a tool to
read these archives. The Email Explorer, or EmEx,
was written to preserve the concept of individual messages so
that the archive is easily read, sorted and searched. EmEx was
written in Java and is platform-independent.
About EmEx - a brief introduction
EmEx is intended for browsing an email archive on a CD or other
read-only filesystem. It is not an email client. You will not be
able to send an email message or reply to an archived message using
EmEx.
How to use it:
- The first EmEx window asks you to identify the location of
your e-mail archive.
- Browse to the drive where your archive CDROM / DVD has been
loaded and select INBOX.
- Once opened, the archive will look familiar.
- Click on a specific e-mail mailbox file to view the contents.
- Sort the messages in a mailbox by clicking
on the column names
- Preview a specific e-mail message by clicking on any of the
header fields
- Search for a specific phrase or word in the messages from
the Search menu
- Read the Help document on the About menu
for more information
If you use the CIS e-mail archive service, EmEx will be copied to your archive.
Or, download
a copy of EmEx choose emex.jar for Linux or Mac and choose
emex.exe for Windows
