Laptops, small electronics are easy targets

Bill Sparks, WHOI Night Services Supervisor, reminds everyone to:

"take extra precautions to properly secure laptop computers, portable electronic equipment and other valuables out of sight. If you are located on the first floor of any building, please secure the windows and lock your office door when you leave the building."

Bill reports that laptop thefts occurred during the summer of 2003 in alarming numbers:

"Reportedly, [nearby], some laptops were removed by cutting the cable locks and other security kits with the use of bolt cutters. A few of these incidents occurred during regular working hours."
