Recommended Configuration for Symantec Anti-virus
Most PC and Macintosh machines throughout the Institution can run the latest version of Symantec Anti-Virus. For computers with limited resources or those running older operating systems, please contact CIS at x2439 to determine which version of Symantec will run best on your system. Some
of the most important features of the product are the File System Auto-Protect and Automatic Definition Updates.
File System Auto-Protect
Enabling File System Auto-Protect safeguards your computer from virus
infections every second of the day. As your computer is flooded
with emails from unknown sources, Auto-Protect
will notify you at that very instance of the presence of harmful
material. From there you are able to remove viruses from your computer
and further protect your work. To effectively achieve this type
of environment, you must not only enable this feature, but ensure
you are scanning all files.:
Automatic Definition
Updates
Definition updates are what protect your system
against the latest viruses. Updates should be set to run daily for maximum protection against the latest virus threats.
