Viewing IP Settings

In Windows 7, XP, 2000, NT and Server 2003:

  1. From the Start menu, select Run.
  2. Type cmd and click OK.
  3. Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.
  4. To release and renew DHCP IP settings, type ipconfig /release (Enter) and then ipconfig /renew (Enter).
In Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.3 (Panther):
  1. Open System Preferences from the Dock or the Apple menu.
  2. Select Network preferences.
  3. Set the Show: pull-down menu to Built-in Ethernet.

In Linux and Unix:

  1. From a shell, run ifconfig -a (ifconfig is usually in /sbin or /usr/sbin).
  2. To view routing tables, run netstat -rn.
  3. To view DNS settings, cat /etc/resolv.conf.
