How to Request a Network Connection: if you need...
An IP address for your computer:
You can now use WHOI
Netreg to obtain an IP address for your computer.
If this is a new computer, first plug it into an active network
jack. Turn the computer on and confirm that you have your computer
set to automatically obtain an IP address (DHCP). Open up a web
browser and you should be directed to https://netreg.whoi.edu,
if not, type https://netreg.whoi.edu in the address
bar. Follow the instructions on the web page to get your IP address.
You will need to log in using your WHOI email username and password.
An IP address for a printer:
You can use WHOI Netreg
to obtain an IP address for your printer. Log in to WHOI Netreg
(https://netreg.whoi.edu)
using your WHOI email username and password and select Register
New machine. You will need the hardware
(MAC) address of the printer to complete the registration.
This can be found on the printer or by printing the configuration
page from the printer.
To activate a network connection in your lab or office:
Use the following link to request an additional
jack activation.
If you are moving to a new location and wish to activate a network
jack in the new location:
Request a new port activation
in your new office.
Wireless access:
You can use WHOI Netreg
to register for wireless access. Log in to https://netreg.whoi.edu/bin/wireless.pl
using your WHOI email username and password. You will need the
hardware
(MAC) address of your wireless interface card to complete
the registration.
