Remote Access

Remote Access System (RAS) is a dialup (PPP) service that allows you to access WHOInet without being at WHOI. This privilege allows you to check your WHOI email, view internal web sites, print directly to WHOI printers, etc.

iPass is a service which provides worldwide remote access when you travel.

The VPN (Virtual Private Networking) service allows you to access restricted areas of WHOInet over dialup or higher-speed Internet connections. The VPN is also required when using the Atlantic wireless network.

All three of these services require a RAS account. Additional software is also needed for iPass and the VPN.

If you just need access to your email while away from WHOI, you may wish to use Webmail.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the CIS Helpdesk at x2439.
