How should I configure my home computer?

Detailed configuration instructions can be found on this Web site, but basically you should configure for PPP access using DHCP.  This means you do NOT need to configure IP address, gateway, and DNS server information.  This is supplied to your computer automatically when you get connected.

What is the minimum system needed?

CIS is supporting systems that have IP networking support built into the operating system.  This includes MS Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, Windows NT4, MacOS 7.5 and above, Linux, and nearly all variants of Unix.  Other systems can likely be made to work if they can be configured to support PPP and DHCP, but this will require some expertise on your part.

Will Secure Shell (SSH) work with RAS?

Yes.  Although we have not done extensive testing, several people have successfully used SSH over a RAS connection.  The use of DHCP which dynamically assigns IP addresses at the time of connection does not cause problems with SSH.
