| WHOI Sea Grant facilitates interactions necessary
to form partnerships to fully develop environmental technologies
as an educational and economic opportunity for southeastern Massachusetts.
The Environmental Technology theme is focused on:
(1) the initiation of research projects that will
develop and deploy innovative technologies to address specific
problems in coastal ecosystems; and
(2) the development of advisory and outreach activities
to foster information transfer, education, and development of
new monitoring and treatment technologies.
The WHOI Sea Grant Program in Environmental Technology
is based on three components:
(1) marine biotechnology, including the development
of molecular markers for understanding contaminant effects in
the environment and probes for application to ecological processes;
(2) remediation technologies, including the development
of new approaches to understanding the degradation of contaminants
in the environment; and
(3) remote technology for monitoring the marine
environment.
