The conservation commission is made up of three to seven appointed volunteers to acquire open space, administer and enforce the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act, administer local protection bylaws, manage open space land, develop open space plans, initiate other conservation programs, advise town agencies on resource protection, participate in agriculture preservation and educate local citizens.

The Board of Health enforces the Massachusetts General Laws, the state Sanitary Code, the state Environmental Code, and local health regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, the location, construction and repair of septic systems, hazardous material storage and disposal, solid waste disposal, bathing water quality, private water supplies, private wells, and non- community public water supplies. The board regulates the use of pesticides/herbicides.

HOURS: No office hours

Designated to handle all open space and land bank business for the Town, the Open Space Committee has responsibility for a continuing comprehensive survey of potential conservation and open space land for the purpose of future acquisition, for evaluating town-owned land holdings for use or sale, and makes recommendations for town meeting action to the Board of Selectmen. Holds regular monthly meetings and such special meetings as required. An "Open Space Plan" is available.

HOURS: Hours vary throughout year.

The Shellfish Department oversees the management, propagation, and protection of the public and private (aquaculture) shellfisheries in the town. Permit fees vary according to category (commercial vs. non-commercial, resident vs. non-resident). Staff are active in the County Shellfish Advisory Committee and the Massachusetts Shellfish Officers Association.
