The goals of the collaborative are to increase awareness and understanding
of natural and human environments on Cape Cod and to provide an
opportunity for students and teachers to experience a different
learning format away from home. Provides residential environmental
education program mainly for fifth grade students. Classes held
on beaches, dunes, woods, swamps and ponds.

OTHER INFORMATION: Program costs $5,500/5 days (25 students max.).
Includes food, room, program transportation, and services of 4 teacher/naturalists.
Building is sometimes available for weekend rental groups: $1,000
(Friday, 5:00 p.m. - Sunday, 5:00 p.m.), sometimes less for small
groups.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Classes at NEED include marine and pond life,
salt marshes, cranberry bogs, white cedar swamp, birds, whales,
Cape Cod geology, Cape Cod human history, cooperative activities,
night programs.

A private nonprofit land trust accepting land donations and gifts
to preserve open space land in the Town of Truro. The Trust owns
and maintains 310 acres of conservation land. It currently protects
about 1/3 of the wetlands within the Pamet River System. The Trust
has received donations from over 750 persons and organizations.
It receives annual support from 250-300 donations. The annual budget
is approximately $20,000. A founding member of The Compact of Cape
Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc.

FEES: Annual membership, but no minimum required contribution.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The Trust holds 310 acres of land divided about
equally between buildable upland and unbuildable wetlands. It has
been involved in several successful fundraising projects to purchase
land, and, during 2005-2006, completed a $500,000 campaign to purchase (along with the Town of Truro) a 4-acre coastal heathland.
