The Conservation Commission is composed of ten appointed volunteers
including three associate members whose primary responsibilities
are to administer and enforce the Massachusetts Wetland Protection
Act and the local protection bylaw and regulations, to manage open
space properties and to provide information on conservation issues
to the public.

The Board of Health enforces the Massachusetts General Laws, the
state Sanitary Code, the state Environmental Code, and local health
regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, the location,
construction and repair of septic systems, solid waste disposal,
bathing water quality, private water supplies, private wells, non-community
public water supplies, body art and massage therapy. The board conducts
surface water sampling, and participates on committees dealing with
storm water drainage and surface water quality issues.

The Open Space Committee recommends specific parcels of land to
the Town for acquisition either in fee, easements or through Conservation
Restrictions. Maintains a list of parcels suitable for acquisition
based on specific criteria such as scenic qualities, ability to
protect natural resources, etc.

Massachusetts General Laws requires coastal communities to have
Shellfish Constables who are trained and experienced in shellfish
management. The Shellfish Department is responsible for managing
shellfish resources within the town including the development of
recommendations for regulation, propagation, and enforcement of
town and state regulations pertaining to shellfish. The Shellfish
Department is involved in water quality issues to protect shellfish
resources. Shellfish licenses available.
