HOURS: Hands-On Discovery Cruises offered Spring through Fall.
Office hours year-round.
OceanQuest, Inc., is an organization firmly rooted in marine science
education. The programs have proven to be highly successful in motivating
and educating participants to the wonders of the ocean through hands-on
teaching techniques. OceanQuest is a private, non-profit educational
and research organization supported by private donations, grants,
and fees. OceanQuest at-sea programs take place aboard a well-equipped
U.S. Coast Guard certified research vessel that departs from Woods
Hole.
PUBLICATIONS: "Hands-On Oceanography," a series of 11
lessons covering the major concepts of ocean science; extensive
teacher background material, data sheets, and suggestions for adapting
the lessons to the classroom are included. "Activity Book/Journal,"
designed as a follow-up to the cruises; includes a variety of puzzles
and games that reinforce ocean science study (grades 2-8). Other
curriculum materials are available.
FEES: Vary with program and group size.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: 2 hour Discovery Cruises and shore programs are
offered to schools and groups in the spring and fall. The Discovery
Cruise explores the major disciplines within oceanography. Shore/Marsh
programs compliment the at-sea experience. OceanQuest is a state
approved professional development provider.
Mid-June through Labor Day a regular schedule of 90 min Hands-On
Discovery Cruises are offered for the general public and groups.
Discover Cuttyhunk Island Cruises August and September. Private
Charters available.
