The conservation commission is made up of seven appointed volunteers to administer and enforce the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act, administer local protection bylaws, manage open space land, develop open space plans(develop conservation restrictions), develop and implement coastal erosion programs, environmental planning, and other conservation programs, advise town agencies on resource protection, participate in agriculture preservation and educate local citizens. Map and trail guides are available on request.

The Department of Natural Resources enforces the rules and regulations of hunting, fishing, shellfishing, and Wetlands Protection Acts in the town. The Department deals with marshland, docks, illegal dumping, driving of recreational vehicles, parking and driving on the beach, and wildlife management programs. The Department is involved in shellfish management and propagation, environmental monitoring and planning. Fees for shellfish licenses are collected by the Department.

The Board of Health enforces the Massachusetts General Laws, the state Sanitary Code, the state Environmental Code, and local health regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, the location, construction and repair of septic systems, hazardous material storage and disposal, solid waste disposal, bathing water quality, private water supplies, private wells, and non- community public water supplies. The board regulates the use of pesticides/herbicides. The Board also sponsors local Hazardous Waste Collection Days.
