A private nonprofit land trust with a primary objective of acquiring land, leaving it in its natural state, and making it available for recreational and educational purposes. The BCT owns and maintains approximately 200 acres of open space. Trails thread their way through these protected woods and waterfront areas. Land purchases are made possible by member donations.

PUBLICATIONS: "Bourne Conservation Trust Newsletter" and a trail guide to the Trusts' properties is available upon request.

OTHER INFORMATION: The Trust accepts any amount of money or gifts of land to be considered a member.

Our Mission: The Coalition for Buzzards Bay is a nonprofit, membership organization dedicated to the restoration, protection, and sustainable use and enjoyment of our irreplaceable Bay and its watershed. The Coalition works to improve the health of the Bay ecosystem for all through education, conservation, research, and advocacy.

The Coalition for Buzzards Bay (CBB) is a private, non-profit membership organization dedicated to the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of Buzzards Bay and its watershed. Now 16 years old, the organization pursues its mission through education, conservation, research, and advocacy. Specific programs include: a bay-wide Water Quality Monitoring Program (largest in Massachusetts) which utilizes volunteers to sample coastal water quality along the bay coastline from Westport to Woods Hole; a Bay Lands Center supporting the conservation of important watershed open space and habitat; environmental education programs on the Bay and in the classroom for school children and adults; and a new BayKeeper advocacy program to support the cleanup and protection of Buzzards Bay.

PUBLICATIONS: CBB Newsletter "Buzzards Bay Current"; Annual Report; "Watershed," a newsletter for landowners; "Baywatchers," report of the Citizen's Water Quality Monitoring Program; 2003 State of the Bay; and "Bay Care Guide" poster.

FEES: Annual membership: $25/year with additional categories for giving.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Citizen's Water Quality Monitoring Program; storm drain stenciling of direct discharges to Buzzards Bay; environmental education in schools; Bay Lands Center, a land conservation center; an annual "Swim Buzzards Bay Day," a 1.18 mile swim and fundraiser; CBB sponsors beach clean-ups and other "hands-on" outdoor activities; slide shows and presentations available upon request.

HOURS: The Marine Animal Discovery Center and Gift Shop is open 10:00am - 5:00 pm daily Memorial Day through Labor Day, weekends through Columbus Day and selected days throughout the year.

The National Marine Life Center is a private non-profit hospital for stranded marine animals. Its mission is to rehabilitate and release stranded sea turtles, seals, dolphins, and small whales, and to advance scientific knowledge and education in marine wildlife health and ocean conservation. The NMLC current has a marine animal hospital for Sea Turtles and Seals and is working towards a goal of a full scale hospital that would also service dolphins and small whales.

Open during summer months, the NMLC’s Marine Animal Discovery Center and Gift Shop features exhibits and educational programs about marine animals , strandings, rehabilitation and the human impact on the marine environment. Throughout the year, NMLC staff offer educational and outreach programs to school groups and community organizations.

PUBLICATIONS: Newletter, annual report, and membership brochures.

FEES: Memberships: $25-$99, donor; $100-$999, patron; $1,000-$9,999, sponsor; $10,000-$99,999, benefactor; and over $100,000, sustaining member. Corporate memberships are also available.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Summer lecture series, summer story hour for kids, summer arts and crafts for kids, educational programs, afterschool programs, “Spooky Splash,” “Holiday Splash,” “Spring Splash.”
