A grass-roots nonprofit organization founded in
1968 to advocate environmental protection and responsible growth
on Cape Cod. APCC's mission is to increase environmental awareness
and action on the part of our citizens, business community, and
political leaders. Through advocacy, public education, and scientific
research APCC is working to ensure that environmental objectives
for Cape Cod are met, and that natural resource protection remains
a focal point of public attention and action.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Courses offered in coastal management
and planning, natural habitats and biology. Provide associate-level
degree and specialty certificate programs, continuing education
and community service courses, seminars and conferences, and Adult
Basic Education/ESL. An Associate in Science degree in Environmental
Technology began in 1998, and five environmental technology certificates
have been developed in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth
and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Environmental Site Assessment,
Coastal Zone Management, Wastewater Management, Geographical Information
Systems, and Water Supply. 40 hour OSHA certification is available.
In addition, the environmental tchnology program at CCCC is offering
new courses in renewable energy efficiency. In the near future,
we will be offering certificate programs in renewable energy as
well.

Cape Cod Maritime Museum (CCMM)is a non-profit organization
dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the Cape's maritime
past, present and future.
Current exhibits describe the Colonial maritime history of Cape Cod and the Islands. The centerpiece of the Museum is the wreck of the ship "Sparrow-Hawk", which sank in 1626. Also on display are items 17th and 18th century coastal America. Children's area with hands-on activities, quizzes and crafts. Gift shop.
CCMM also offers courses and short programs for
children and adults. Please call for details.

A nonprofit service organization of the 25 Cape
Cod land conservation trusts. Dedicated to helping conservation
groups and town agencies acquire and manage important natural systems
as protected open space. The Compact also provides various professional
support to its members on land management and land-use planning,
fundraising, tax requirements for non- profits, proposal writing,
scientific research, and public education. Local trusts protect
over 4,000 acres.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Provides advisory, referral, contractual
environmental services and public workshops on conservation issues--
including land acquisition, land management, coastal planning, and

on conserving property and its tax benefits. Involvement in Cape
Cod Pathways planning and Wildlife Habitat mapping project.

GreenCAPE is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization
whose goal is outreach, education, and community action to raise
awareness of Cape Codders about toxic chemicals and encourage the
reduction of their use by promoting ecological approaches to weed
and insect control.

Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises has been operating
the only mid-Cape whale watch vessel since 1981. The company supports
a full-time, year-round education program and is actively involved
in WhaleNet and many regional science and environmental education
associations. The M/V Whale Watcher is 110 feet long and is fully
licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard.
PUBLICATIONS: Curriculum materials supporting on-board
programs available to program participants.
FEES: School visits and teacher workshops free of
charge. Fees for on-board programs.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: On-board programs include: "Whale
Watcher Cruise," "Cape Cod Floating Classroom," and
"Coastal Ecology Encounter." On-land programs are selected
and developed in consultation with the specific environmental/educational
organization that requests presentation. An internship program for
qualified college students (undergraduate and graduate) is also
available.

Nantucket Soundkeeper is working to preserve the
Sound’s unique ecological, cultural, recreational, and aesthetic
qualities through advocacy, public education, and legal action.
The mission of Nantucket Soundkeeper is to protect the marine waters
bounded by Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Our
program includes water quality monitoring, natural habitat conservation,
preventing inappropriate development in and around the Sound, monitoring
enforcement of environmental laws and regulations, and public outreach
and environmental education.

Orenda* Wildlife Land Trust's mission is to protect
wildlife and their habitat. Orenda acquires land to be held in perpetuity
as protected wildlife sanctuaries and assists others in protecting
open space for wildlife. Orenda is a member of the Compact of Cape
Cod Conservation Trusts and is a managing partner of the Mashpee
National Wildlife Refuge.
*"Orenda" is a Seneca Indian word meaning
"protected place."

Silent Spring Institute is a partnership of scientists,
physicians, public health advocates, and community activists united
around the common goal of identifying and changing the links between
the environment and women's health, especially breast cancer. This
collaboration began when activists from the Massachusetts Breast
Cancer Coalition recognized the need for a new type of research
organization to find preventable causes of breast cancer. The Institute
is named in recognition of Silent Spring, Rachel Carson's pioneering
book that tied the use of pesticides to adverse effects on wildlife.
The Institute's research projects investigate a
number of issues key to determining how women are exposed to pollutants
with potentially long-term health risks. This research is funded
by organizations and individuals who are committed to furthering
research on issues that affect women's health, and, in particular,
on potential environmental links to breast cancer.

Three Bays Preservation, Inc., is a non-profit environmental
organization created to preserve, maintain, protect, and enhance
the aquatic environment and related ecosystems of the three bay
estuary comprised of West Bay, North Bay, and Cotuit Bay in Barnstable
County, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and to take action to forestall
and minimize threats to the health of the Three Bays' system.
The goals of Three Bays Preservation are to: restore
and protect the Bays' habitats to ensure a diverse, balanced, and
healthy population of fish, shellfish, wildlife, and plants; assure
that the beneficial uses of the Three Bay Watershed, including fishing,
swimming, navigation and shell fishing, are improved and protected;
monitor, maintain and protect the integrity of Dead Neck and Sampson's
Island, sustaining the natural habitat and encouraging the vitality
of the nature preserve; increase our scientific understanding of
the Three Bays watershed and estuary and use that knowledge to stimulate
appropriate public actions; improve water quality by initiating
action to eliminate and prevent pollution at its source, and minimize
the discharge of pollutants from point and non-point sources; maximize
the exchange of water with Nantucket Sound by improving hydraulic
flow and flushing through the use of dredging and other waterway
modifications; increase public knowledge about the Three Bays ecosystem
and stimulate public involvement in the restoration and protection
of the health of the Bays; and establish partnerships with Town,
County and State Agencies, as well as other environmental interest
groups, to achieve these goals.
