The Community Preservation Committee aids the Town in preserving
open space and historic sites, and in creating affordable housing
and recreational facilities with funds generated from the Community
Preservation Act.

The Conservation Commission is made up of seven appointed volunteers
to administer and enforce the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act,
administer Barnstable's local protection bylaw and regulations,
manage open space land, develop open space plans, initiate conservation
programs, advise town agencies on resource protection, and educate
local citizens. The Barnstable Conservation Division serves as the
commission's full-time arm, with four full-time employees.
PUBLICATIONS: Copies of regulations, forms, fee schedule, information
on special projects, along with trail maps and guides to conservation
areas also available on web site at www.town.barnstable.ma.us/Conservation/.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The Conservation Division also undertakes pond
and wetland restoration projects on behalf of the Town.

The Department of Natural Resources enforces the rules and regulations
of hunting, fishing, shellfishing, and Wetlands Protection Acts
in the Town. The Division deals with marshland, docks, illegal dumping,
driving of recreational vehicles, and wildlife management programs.
The Barnstable DNR includes the Animal Control Section. The Department
issues shellfish permits, Massachusetts Hunting and Fishing licenses,
Shooting Range permits.

The Public Health Division enforces the Massachusetts General Laws,
the state Sanitary Code, the state Environmental Code, Federal Food
Code, and local health regulations. This includes, but is not limited
to, the location, construction and repair of septic systems, retail
food sanitation, hazardous material storage and disposal, solid
waste disposal, bathing water quality, private water supplies, private
wells, and non- community public water supplies.
