SEASONAL PLOTS:
Plots of 5 different pressure levels:   (0, 50, 100, 200, 400 db)
each showing a property field:  (sigma-0 (s0), salinity sa, theta th)
in 4 separate months:    (feb, may, aug, nov)
These fields have been smoothed at 3deg (3 iterations of laplacian filter with weight factor = 0.5)

HYDROBASE2 SMOOTHING EFFECTS:

smoothA files: show a property with
no-smoothing, and smoothing radius of
1 °, 3 °, and 5 °

smoothB files: show a property with
smoothing radius of 7 ° and 10 °
plus the same fields from the SAC (Hamburg group)
and World Ocean Atlas 1998 climatologies

COMPARISON OF HYDROBASE2/SAC/WOA98

Each shows a property field on a horizontal surface derived from each of the 1-degree climatology products. These are straight comparisons -- what you see is what you get. Sorry that the contour labels didn't come out at this size scale. The contours are, of course, identical amongst the various plots.

comp.bottom_theta.pdf: Potential temperatures at the ocean bottom. Colors depict temperatures colder than 2.0 ° C. Thin black contours are at 0.2 ° C up to 3.0 ° C. Heavy black contours denote isotherms at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 ° C.
The extra panel shows the HydroBase2 field gridded at 1/2 ° resolution.
comp.pr0.ht.pdf: : Dynamic height at sea surface rel to 700 db
comp.pr200.th.pdf: Potential temperature on pressure = 200 db.
comp.sig2700.sa.pdf: Salinity on sigma-0 = 27.0 (nominal 700 m depth in interior subtropical gyre.
comp.sig4145.pr.pdf: Pressure on sigma-3000 = 41.45 (nominal depth 3000 m in deep Gulf Stream.
comp.sig45907.th.pdf: Potential temperature on a deep sigma surface sigma-4000 = 45.907.
