Andrey
Proshutinsky
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution,
Woods Hole, Massachusetts
The Principal Investigator of the Beaufort Gyre Exploration
program is Andrey Proshutinsky, who is a Senior Scientist
in WHOI's Physical Oceanography Department. Proshutinsky
has more than 35 years of experience studying the Arctic
Seas, and has produced numerous publications concerning
the regional oceanography and meteorology, climate change,
numerical modeling of ice and water dynamics, Arctic ocean
tides and storm surges, and Northern Sea Route climatology
and navigation conditions. He is responsible for the overall program coordination and scientific analyses. This includes organization of the workshops and field programs and collaborations with our international research team. In addition, Andrey is specifically focused on the project tasks associated with analyzing, interpreting, and publishing the ocean and sea ice dynamics results.

Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Rick Krishfield is a Research Specialist with extensive
field experience in the Arctic. He is responsible
for preparation of the instrumentation on the bottom-tethered
moorings and buoys, participates on the deployment
and recovery cruises, and assists Andrey with the
data analysis and preparation of the results.

 |
Mary-Louise Timmermans
Yale University,
New Haven, Connecticut
Mary-Louise analyzes MMP measurements to understand Arctic Ocean mixing, property transports and circulation dynamics. She also coordinates her own activities in other NSF supported projects (ARC-0806306: "Manifestations and Consequences of a Changing Climate in the Arctic Ocean's Beaufort Gyre") with the BG studies and observations.
|
 |
John Toole
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution,
Woods Hole, Massachusetts
John Toole coordinates the BG program with the Ice-Tethered Profiler project, analyzes MMP and hydrographic data
and consults on data managing and processing.
|
 |
John Kemp
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution,
Woods Hole, Massachusetts
John Kemp is a Senior Engineering Assistant and foremost expert on the design, construction, and installation of instrumented mooring systems of any type in any ocean, including the Arctic. John is responsible for the design and preparation of the moored systems, their deployment and recovery operations.
|
 |
Willie
Ostrom
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution,
Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Willie Ostrom is a Senior Engineering Assistant who has extensive experience installing and recovering numerous mooring systems. Willie is responsible for deployment and recovery operations together with John Kemp.

Institute of Ocean Sciences,
British Columbia, Canada
Collaboration with scientists from Institute
of Ocean Sciences (IOS) in British Columbia is included
in this program. The IOS effort is co-led by Fiona McLaughlin and Eddy Carmack, and the IOS
team also includes Sarah Zimmermann and Michiyo Kawai-Yamamoto. The IOS scientists are responsible for
performing approximately 30 CTD hydrographic casts per
cruise, including all personnel, hardware preparation,
calibration, travel, sampling, chemical analysis of nutrients,
oxygen isotopes and CFCs, and data dissemination.
