1. Cruise Dates-
For PI’s- I suggest No later than July 16th US departure to arrive July 17th evening in Tokyo (Narita airport) for July 18th workshop. Note that July 18th is “Marine Day” holiday in Japan, and Yokohama will have fireworks display night of 18th, so hotels may be harder to find. We’ll send group hotel info later as we learn more.
July 18th- One day workshop on K2 and twilight zone science: hrs- 09:00 – 18:00
Yokohama, most likely office of Global Ocean Development Inc w/ M. Honda (JAMSTEC) local host; plans include morning Japanese presentations; afternoon VERTIGO PI’s.
Can move on board RV Revelle any time after noon on 18th into cabins
July 21- plan on 16:00 afternoon departure from Yokohama.
4.5 day steam to K2 site.

Arrive Aug. 27th Honolulu & offload 28 & 29th. Last night berth on ship is Aug. 28th.
You must arrange for all gear & waste to leave ship in Honolulu.
2. Berths
PLEASE open attached berthing file and confirm who is coming from your group, M/F & contact info. I need this information ASAP. Next to each I also have some notes on expected duties, in particular for CTD watches where we need 6-8 to be available to 12 hour watches during the cruise, especially early, mid, late surveys.
3. Shipping/chemicals
See J. Andrews March 4 email- suggest arrival of gear in early July.
SIO needs advance notice of shipments to the ship.
We also need detailed inventories with the value of the items in the shipment
and a copy of the Bill of Lading or Air Way Bill as appropriate. Email lists to

important the procedures outlined in the document above be followed to prevent
delays.
Chemicals- Individuals need to arrange direct purchase & shipment to agent in Japan. Vendor’s include Fisher Japan & others (list attached, but we have no direct experience). Agent will also be needed for LN2- this is your own responsibility, but cc Ken/John Andrews to coordinate single LN2 purchase if possible. We also advice checking with agent to confirm chemical arrival well before departure date.
4. Data exchange/important VERTIGO meetings
In May, new data will appear on VERTIGO web site. Send along new data as it is ready to share internally among PI’s
July 18th workshop in Yokohama GODI office (see above). 5-6 30min PI presentations in afternoon. Evening reception planned. PI’s and any may attend, but space is limited, so I need to know who from each group might attend. Makio Honda (Jamstec) is local host.
2005 Cruise- bring VERTIGO data from 2004 on Revelle where we will organize discussions during 8.5 day steam from K2 to Honolulu

VERTIGO PI meeting- Feb. 13-15 in Honolulu- Arrive one week early!
We need a PI meeting and have planned to hold this for 2.5 days, starting Monday morning prior to Ocean Sciences meeting (other PI’s in group already have W-Fri EDDIES meeting & no one wanted weekend schedule- let me know if this is NOT OK by you).
