The Arctic Ridge forms the northernmost part of Earth’s Mid-Ocean Ridge. The Ridge is a chain of undersea mountains in every ocean that circles the earth like the seam of a baseball for about 60,000 kilometers (40,000 miles). It is the place where Earth’s crust is born as two tectonic plates move apart in seafloor spreading.
