The voyage to Isle Royale began for some behind the wheel of a Ryder truck. The specially modified LADAS catamaran [in pieces], the coring hardware and sampling supplies plus camping equipment and food were stuffed in the back of a 24 footer and driven from Woods Hole to Grand Portage, Minnesota.
