This is a
new program that allows you to
identify and measure the organisms from a plankton sample that has been
photographed and scanned. From the lengths, wet weights are calculated
and basic statistics are recorded. Size frequency histograms are also
created of the lengths, weights, and counts. The data can be imported into MS
Excel for further analysis and plotting. |

When I first
started at Woods Hole Ocean. Inst. 25 years ago, I was one of several who sat
at the microscope 8 hours per day, sorting and identifying the animals in
samples. Needless to say, there was a
high burn-out rate with this job and most of my colleagues from that time are
no longer in the field. I
wouldn’t be doing it today if I were still at the microscope for such long
periods. |
