Parking for Commencement

Please park in the Clark Laboratory parking lot.  Vans will leave from the front of the Clark building to the ballfield and will return to the front of Clark intermittently after the festivities.  DO NOT PARK NEAR THE COASTAL RESEARCH CENTER OR CLARK SOUTH.  These areas need to be clear for the procession and for easy access by the services and food crews.  A limited number of parking spaces will be made available near the Coastal Research Center for handicap parking only.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin promptly at 10:30 AM.  Please make every effort to be in your seat by that time or you may be delayed in obtaining a seat until after the procession enters.

Regalia

Joint Program graduates participating in the MIT hooding or commencement are requested to leave their rented caps and gowns at MIT.  We will provide regalia for the WHOI commencement.

Doctoral Hoods

Graduates who have doctoral hoods or will receive one at the hooding ceremony are requested to bring their hoods on Saturday.  We have a limited number of Joint Program hoods for alumni and graduates who do not have them.

For faculty, your indication of doctoral degree school on the response form will let us know what hood to order for you.  If you already have a hood, please let us know.

Height Measurement

To measure for your gown, stand against the wall with your shoes on.  Your feet should be placed together and the back of your head should touch the wall.

Next, ask someone to place a ruler on the top of your head at a right angle to the wall.  Your height will be the total distance from the floor to the point where the ruler touches the wall.

Cap Measurement

Measure around your head at a point about one inch (3 cm) above the ears.  Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight.  If you do not have a flexible measuring tape, use a string and then measure the string.
