An autonomous glider during a deep-water field trial in the Bahamas. In the summer of 2003, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution researchers used a fleet of 12 such gliders in Monterey Bay, California, to measure the physical and biological response to coastal upwelling with collaborators from Princeton University, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, California Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, and the Naval Postgraduate School.
