Textbook Textbook on Rotating Hydraulics
Larry and Jack Whitehead are writing a textbook on hydraulic effects in the ocean and atmosphere. Topics include deep overflows, exchange flows in sea straits, coastal currents and upwelling jets, and beta-plane phenomena. Specific applications include the exchange flows of the Strait of Gibraltar and Bab al Mandab, the deep overflows of the Faroe-Bank Channel and Denmark Strait, the California coastal marine layer, the gravity current fed by the Chesapeake Bay, and upwelling jets and fronts off the Oregon coast. The text is used for an MIT/WHOI Joint Program course (12.809) taught by Larry every other fall. Very rough drafts of particular sections can be downloaded. The authors would be grateful to learn of any typos and they promise to remember you in their acknowledgement.
