My research has been focused on understanding the hydrodynamics and morphodynamics in rivers and estuaries where the oceanic tides and waves meet riverine flows. Episodic river flooding triggered by large rainfall contribute significant amount of fresh water and terrestrial sediment deposition. Locally intense circulations can be generated under the interaction of tidal currents and complex bathymetry. Owing to the highly nonlinear interaction among waves and currents over the channel-shoal system, the predictive capability still remains qualitative. Understanding the consequences of these complex processes is important to support a variety of economic benefits.
