Robotics, applying principles of automation to remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles to add capability and ease of use; design of vehicles including the Medea/Jason remotely operated vehicle system and the Autonomous Benthic Explorer, ABE; precise control, navigation and positioning; deep sea observatories.
