Oceanus Magazine

Oceanus Magazine.

What We Do
Reporting and writing about WHOI
Our mission is to cover WHOI much the way a newspaper covers a city, identifying stories, writing articles and producing multimedia that highlight and explain WHOI's research, engineering, education, and researchers, and conveying them to wider audiences. In developing stories, we also help identify, gather, brainstorm, or commission photos and graphics in a variety of media to accompany and help explain the science to audiences not inside the field.

Our primary vehicle for distributing these stories is Oceanus magazine, printed twice per year and updated weekly online at www.whoi.edu/oceanus. But in many ways, Oceanus is an engine that gathers and creates editorial content that is available for the entire WHOI community to repurpose in their efforts to communicate the value and meaning of WHOI science to a variety of audiences and constituencies. And through the editorial process, we offer scientists expertise in communicating to non-scientist audiences.

Other print and online publications
The Editorial Group also provides editorial content for several WHOI Web sites (i.e  Science in the Time of Crisis, Image of the Day, Students at Work, Beach Closure, and Dive & Discover), and publications (i.e. WHOI Annual Report).

How to contact us
Call, e-mail, drop us a line, stop by, corner us in a hallway, send smoke signals (if permitted by law), whatever is most convenient for you. But please do alert us about your research, pending expeditions, pending publications, newly funded grants, new lab equipment or engineering devices, or anything else you think might make useful editorial content.
