A nonprofit group promoting the historical, scientific, educational and other statutory purposes of the Cape Cod National Seashore for which no government, donated, nor other funds are available. The group publicizes critical issues affecting the enhancement, protection, or preservation of the Seashore's resources. In addition to administering the Nickerson Fund which grants aid for coastal research projects, they assist in providing interpretive programs for visitors to the National Seashore, and encourage private donations to support seashore programs. The Friends of Cape Cod National Seashore have approximately 500 members. PUBLICATIONS: Newsletter (3/year, free to members). FEES: Annual membership is $20 for an individual and $35 for a family. SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The Friends sponsor erosion control plantings, an adopt-a-trail program for maintenance of key seashore trails, summer entertainment for visitors, support of seashore programs for local schools, and the purchase of new facilities such as picnic tables and grills. Our new project is funding the acquisition of furnishings and exhibits for the Old Harbor Life Saving Station at Race Point. It is over 1,100 acres of salt marsh, pine woods, fields, brooks, ponds, and moors, including 5 miles of trails. Nature tours, classes, and programs are offered on and off site for students of all ages. Sanctuary staff provide programs related to natural history including slide presentations, guided walks, and participatory research projects. Day camp and daily programs for children during July and August. The sanctuary directs sea turtle stranding recoveries. Open year-round. PUBLICATIONS: "Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary" (4/year); "Sanctuary Magazine" (3/year); "Connections" (3/year). All publications free to members. A private, nonprofit land trust, since 1984, accepting land donations and gifts to preserve open space land in the Town of Wellfleet. The Trust owns and maintains 300 acres of conservation land and is a member of The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. The Wellfleet Conservation Trust has 15 Trustees. They currently maintain 19 Conservation Restrictions in Wellfleet. The trust checks Areas of Critical Environmental Concern, protecting Wellfleet Harbor and estuarines from Eastham line to Pamet in Truro.
