A citizens group working to preserve and enhance the quality of life in our community through research, education, information, outreach, and positive action. Advocates broader cooperation and communication with Cape-wide groups focused on regional quality of life issues and protection of the Cape Cod environment. SPECIAL PROGRAMS: The Forum actively participates in town affairs. They stress informed input and voting on vital questions affecting the future direction of Eastham. The Forum holds public meetings before town elections, Town Meeting, and, when pertinent, on local issues. In addition, in 1999-2000 the Forum sponsored two public meetings at which Eastham's Recycling Committee presented the concept/program "Pay by the Bag" for solid waste disposal, which has been successful in many communities, resulting in more recycling, thereby containing the expected rise in disposal costs. The Forum organized the annual bayside beach cleanups and Coastsweep; maintained 15 flower islands and Town Hall's garden; sponsored a Forum Water Tent at Windmill Weekend which combined "groundwater awareness" activities with Water Resources Advisory Committee water testing and information; monitored town boards; promoted undergrounding of utility wires in the vicinity of Windmill Green, affordable housing, and measures and tools to plan for expected increases in development, water use, and traffic. The Department deals with marshland, docks, illegal dumping, driving of recreational vehicles, parking and driving on the beach, wildlife management programs, open space lands management (trails), motorboats on ponds, and water quality assessment. The Department also runs a shellfish propagation/nursery and hatchery program. Flyers and handouts regarding shellfishing and wetlands protection are available. Shellfishing licenses are available.
