WHOI Position: Assistant Marine Operations Coordinator Date: 12/10 Position Code: 2598 EEO Code: 227 Job Summary: Reporting to the Marine Operations Coordinator, assists with ship scheduling activities and acts as liaison and point of contact with scientific users of ships and deep submergence vehicles. Assists scientists with pre, current and post cruise logistics including reconciling port invoices. Prepares U.S. Customs documentation for WHOI vessels. Assists scientists in planning and preparing for the scientific work to be conducted on Institution vessels and facilities. Major Duties:
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience required, Experience in research ship operations; understanding of oceanographic research, methodologies, and oceanographic equipment preferred. Experience with computers and databases. Ability to work at times in a fast paced changing environment, multi-task, and work on several projects simultaneously. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with co-workers and scientists. A quick learner with a careful eye and attention to detail to a variety of responsibilities. Enjoys working with others and has strong communication skills both written and verbal.
