Job Summary
Reporting to the Ship Operations Manager, is responsible for designing and overseeing installation and/or repair of marine power plants, propulsion systems, heating, ventilating and all other mechanical and electrical systems on research vessels.

Major Duties
  • Prepares and maintains records and documents for U.S. Coast Guard inspections and American Bureau of Shipping surveys and presents vessels to all regulatory bodies for mandatory inspections and surveys.
  • Writes contract specifications for annual shipyard drydocking and overhaul.
  • Evaluates and oversees modification to equipment and systems to meet new regulatory agency requirements for marine craft.
  • Oversees and evaluates operation of equipment during acceptance testing and shakedown cruises.
  • Directs repairs, maintenance, and inspection of ships' machinery systems.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience plus 8 to 10 years experience in Marine Engineering. Must have thorough knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping rules and regulations.
