Job Summary Reporting to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor, organizes and supervises all welding activities and performs a wide variety of welding related tasks for all Institution facilities, including research vessels. Performs and/or supervises complex welding, cutting, and brazing work in the contstruction or repair of mechanical equipment. Major Duties
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring High school or vocational school; 15 years experience in welding shop practices. Must possess one or more welding certificates. Computer proficiency with common software applications (word processing & spreadsheets). Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead projects and prioritize work; ability to handle administrative and financial aspects of the job. Physical Requirements Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs is required. Other physical requirements include: frequent stooping, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching and standing. Good hearing and vision are needed to hear and follow safety warnings and requirements. Working Conditions The environment may have exposure to extreme environmental and weather conditions (excessive/prolonged heat, cold or humidity and weather conditions), which may include exposure to chemicals and other potential hazards.
