Job Summary
Performs complex mechanical construction, repair, and installation work involving a wide variety of shop and scientific equipment.

Major Duties
  • Performs all duties of Mechanic but at a high level of consistent ability.
  • Designs mechanical equipment where required.
  • Has superior knowledge of one or more individual area of mechanics, such as engines.
  • Has license for particular area of work, such as stationery engineer.
  • Researches and selects components needed for repair and/or construction requirements.
  • Works with mechanic's hand and power tools, lathe, drill press, power saws, hydraulic press, hydraulic shears, welding equipment and tools, sheet metal tools, heavy equipment (forklifts, crane cars, overhead cranes), ships' machinery (cranes, engines, pumps, and generators), and small boats.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may deem necessary.


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
High school or vocational school plus 1 year of training courses in mechanical trades; 10 years experience in marine mechanical work or related fields.
