Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Controller and working as a liaison between the Controller’s Office and Development, works independently, performing a variety of accounting duties related to gift accounting in support of the Institution’s general ledger.  Prepares reconciliation’s relating to gift type classification, prepares daily entries to the general ledger and reviews financial statement entries specific to gifts. 



Major Duties
  • Prepares accounts receivable journal entries for pledge payments, assembles and prepares cash receipt information for all gifts received for cash manager to enter into general ledger, constituent data maintenance, Raiser’s Edge gift entry,  generation of tax receipts, acknowledgements (including monitoring of all special letters required) and pledge reminders. 

 

  • Prepares pledge receivable and gift classification reconciliations from Development records to  general ledger accounts and  net assets on a monthly basis

 

  • Operates petty cash office for Quissett Campus

 

  • Generates daily, monthly and yearly financial reports as required, including provision of reports for financial yearend audit, agency audits and IRS reporting.

 

  • Verify accuracy of financial accounting reports produced by Development staff

 

  • Assist and review financial statement data specific to donor gifts on a monthly basis

 

  • Notifies Education office of Alumni gifts and Chairman of Trustee/Corporation gifts and provides them with acknowledgement contact information.

 

  • Responsible for remaining informed of CASE, FASB and GASB accounting regulations and applying them to gift coding, reporting, receipting, acknowledgement and designation.

 

  • Responsible for overseeing the gift accounting records

 

  • Responsible for cross-training backup support for gift accounting and for monitoring their accuracy.

 

  • Responsible for the creation and accuracy of the annual Donor Report list.

 

  • Creates and maintains policies and procedures for consistency in gift accounting and reporting.

 



Desired Education/Experience for Hiring

Experience in not-for-profit accounting. Ability to demonstrate knowledge in accounting terminology and technique as well as interpretation and experience in procedures and principles employed in applicable areas and excellent analytic skills. (FASB, GASB and CASE gift accounting standards).  Preferred:  Strong knowledge of Bitech, Raiser’s Edge, and Microsoft Excel.  Ability to work accurately and under pressure.   Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with both internal and external contacts.
