Job Summary
Reporting to the Controller,  responsible for overseeing the Accounts Receivable, General Accounting, Government Regulations and Payroll Departments of the Institution and is in charge of the Controller's Office in the absence of the Controller.

Major Duties
  • Supervises staff to ensure efficient processing of information consistent with proper internal controls.
  • Oversees all aspects of General Accounting Department.
  • Oversees all aspects of Accounts Receivable, Regulatory Compliance, Self-Governance and payroll for the Institution.
  • Reviews the process of electronic and manual invoicing including monthly statements and collections.
  • Initiates and develops automated billing capabilities.
  • Coordinates financial aspects of all Institution loans to employees.
  • Develops strategic directions for the functional areas reporting to the position.

  • Assists the Controller in development and implementation of Institution-wide policies and procedures.

  • Acts as the primary interface with the MIS Manager on systems issues relating to the functional areas reporting to the position in order to take full advantage of advances in technology.
     
  • Benchmarks functional performance and develops a methodology for ensuring adoption of higher education "Best Practices".

  •  
  • Interfaces with independent auditors, government audiitors and senior Institution management.

  • Performs such other duties as the Controller may deem necessary.


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required,  Masters degree preferred.  Minimum of ten years accounting experience with a demonstrated familiarity with the principles of not-for-profit accounting.  Comprehensive knowledge of broad-based financial functions in addition to financial accounting standards.  Understanding of research/academic environment desirable; strong computer background required.  Good organizational, communications, interpersonal and supervisory skills are essential.
