Job Summary With
minimal supervison, carries out a wide range of complex duties in
computer-aided and conventional rafting and/or desktop and professional
publishing.
Major Duties
- Prepares
some or all of the following (individuals may specialize) from
rough sketches or dummies, discussions, or actual models using
a computer and/or traditional drawing techniques:
- Scaled
mechanical drawings, electrical schematic diagrams, and other
figures, often in isometric or perspective views;
- Technical
reports, theses and technical memoranda;
- Brochures,
flyers, newsletters, forms, business cards, letterheads, and
other printed material;
- Slide
presentations;
- Signs
and displays for poster sessions;
- Various
dry mounting and framing oprations.
- Works
with traditional drafting instruments, computer and computer-related
equipment such as scanners as well as appropriate current software,
film recorder, stat camera, copy machines, lettering machine,
dry mounting press.
- Prepares
specifications and purchase orders for outside services such
as printers, solicits bids for services and follows jobs through
to delivery. Performs audiovisual and other duties as the supervisor
may, from time to time, deem necessary.
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring High
School plus commerical art/drafting training in college or art school;
2 years experience in technical drafting, desktop publishing, or
print production, preferably at WHOI or a similar organization.
Excellent language skills required. Bachelor's degree highly desirable.
