Job Summary
Working from rough sketches, discussions, photos or actual models, prepares artistic and technically accurate illustrations for use in scientific and administrative publications and for display or presentation. Assignments scheduled by supervisor and executed with little supervision.

Major Duties

Prepares conceptual sketches and renderings in isometric and perspective views using a variety of mediums including rough pencil sketches, color pencil and marker renderings,ink, and air brushed- illustrations.

Prepares designs for various printed pieces.

Performs various dry mounting and framing operations.

Prepares signs and displays for poster sessions and exhibits.

May periodically provide audiovisual services.

Works with traditional drafting instruments, common illustration tools such as an airbrush, inks and paints and colored pencils, dry mounting press, stat camera, Graphix 2 vinyl lettering machine, copy machines.

Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
High school plus commercial art training in college or art school; two years experience in drafting and/or illustrating, preferably at WHOI or a similar organization. BFA Graphic Design, illustration, or fine art or 4 years experience in technical illustration, scientific illustration preferred.
