Job Summary Reporting to the Director and President and working closely with the Vice Presidents, this position is charged with managing the relationship between the Institution and the Federal Government. Major Duties
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring Must have solid, extensive experience in Federal Government relations with a demonstrated understanding of the work of the principal science funding agencies and legislative process. College degree required. Graduate work (Ph.D. or equivalent degree) in public policy or science and engineering preferred. A high degree of organization, ability to solve problems, and excellent communication skills are essential. As a member of the Institution's senior management team, this person will be able to plan and implement both long-term strategies and short-term programs. As a senior representative of the Institution, this person will have good oral and writing skills and the ability to synthesize and translate science for the policymakers and public. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to understand the interface of public policy and science is required and experience in making policy is highly desirable.
